Kein anderere Musiker ist so verbunden mit dem Rockpalast wie Rory Gallagher. Er eröffnete die 1.Rocknacht in der Grugahalle in Essen 1977. Zuvor hatte er bereits ein Rockpalast Konzert am 6.10.76 im Studio gegeben. 1979 war er bei den Maifestspielen in Wiesbaden dabei, die vom Rockpalast aufgezeichnet wurden. Und wieder war Rory bei einer Rockpalast Permiere dabei: Beim ersten live übertragenen Open Air von der Loreley am 28.08.1982. Dort fand die inzwischen legendäre Jam Session mit David Lindley, Eric Burdon und BAP statt. Zum Ende der ersten Rockpalast Ära war er zu Gast bei Peter Rüchel in der „Best of Rockpalast“ Sendung.
1990 trat er noch einmal in der Sendung Rocklife in der Live Music Hall in Köln auf.
